Getting Good Sleep using Melatonin

I'm 30 years old now, but I can remember having sleeping problems all the way back to when I was a little kid. For some reason, it has always been near impossible for me to fall asleep at a reasonable time. I've tried many different things to shake this problem because is really affected my life. From being tired while taking important tests in school, to having to 'fake' freshness while giving a big presentation for work, not getting enough sleep has always been a problem. I've tried changing my bedroom around, NyQuil and other OTC drugs and powdered drink mixes, but nothing was as successful for me as Melatonin.

Many people who have sleeping issues turn to Nyquil or Theraflu to help them fall asleep quickly and easily. While both of these solutions are effective, they just werent for me because I didnt feel that they were good long term solutions. Neither were made for just falling asleep, so I felt like I was taking a bunch of extra drugs that I didnt need. There are some over the counter drugs that are made specifically for falling asleep, such as Tylenol PM, but that did not feel natural to me either. As effective as these options are, none of them seemed like effective solutions to me for the long-term.

In an attempt to naturally help myself fall asleep, I thought I'd adjust my surroundings. At the advice of many experts, I nixed the TV from the room, bought a pillow top matress for my bed, and centered the room around a theme of 'sleep'. Unfortunately, this proved unsuccessful for me. I didn't fall asleep any earlier, and instead of atleast having the TV to help pass the time, I was just bored. I concluded that it wasn't my surroundings that was keeping me awake, it was my body.

This all changed after a night at a little get-together. I overheard two women talking about sleeping problems, and how one of them was using Melatonin to help her fall asleep easier. I was excited to hear this, I hadn't heard of Melatonin before, but she was going on and on about how it was a natural substance that is in your body anyway and that it does a great job of easing you into sleep without any ill side effects that she could think of. I decided that I must try melatonin as soon as possible.

I went to the drug store to find this Melatonin product. I walked up and down the aisle looking for it with the other OTC sleep drugs but I couldnt find it anywhere. I asked a store employee and she pointed me to the herbal supplements section, and there I found the Melatonin. I purchased a bottle with the intent of trying it out that night. That evening, about an hour before I wanted to fall asleep, I took a pill. As if my magic, 60 minutes later I was ready to go to bed. I wasnt knocked out tired, but I was sleepy, and sleepy enough to fall asleep. I considered Melatonin a success. Ever since that night, Ive had exactly the same experience. The melatonin has been very effective in getting me to sleep, and I have no problems with waking up in the middle of the night. Also, in the morning, I dont wake up groggy or tired. As long as Ive gotten at least 7 hours of sleep, I wake up rested and ready to start the day.

After some research, I did find some tips on buying melatonin. First, it was recommended that you purchase chemically created Melatonin. You want the melatonin created in a lab, not the naturally occurring stuff. There could be bad stuff in the naturally occurring version that you wouldnt want to take. Next, start with the smallest dosage size you can find. 3mg is the smallest I could find. Some doctors think that is too much, so think very hard before you increase your dosage size. It is also a good idea to consult with a doctor about taking Melatonin, as they may have some suggestions and information for you.

These were my experiences with melatonin. Ive had a very positive experience. I dont take it every night, but I do when it is absolutely important for me to get good sleep. I dont want to abuse or overuse it. Ive found it to be the perfect solution to the sleeping problems I had. - 17274

The idea of not having enough food for emergency preparedness can keep many of us awake at night wondering about our procrastination in storing enough food for our families. Many of us live in developed countries, but natural disasters, power outages, even volcano eruptions, earthquakes and blizzards will easily deter people from reaching town and having access to food. The ability to have enough cash on hand or be able to use a debit or credit card may not be feasible during disaster times.

We can spend a lot of time organizing and planning long-term food supplies, storage and ensure we eat what is getting close to its expiry date. Some people have done this and are certainly to be praised for their advanced planning efforts. I cannot discourage them in that. There are many of us who simply cannot or do not have the time or even inclination to do that, and yet we have a nagging worry in the back of our mind of how pathetically ill-prepared we are for a food emergency.

What I've found is a lot of food available that is prepared for much longer storage life such as 5 to 10 years, even up to 25 years. Freeze dried food, MRE's, these foods are what military personnel carry with them. For those of you unfamiliar with MRE's, they are individual pouches of food ready to slip into an MRE heater. THe heater is also a slim disposable holder that requires only one tablespoon of water to heat the MRE meal that you slip into it. The MRE will provide nutritious meals that are most tasty hot than cold, which is why you want the MRE heater with you. At about .99 for the heater, you can see what I'm talking about. The heater is not a piece of bulky equipment and does not require fuel.

6. Your dieting should comprise all food groups including carbohydrates. Indeed, your diet needs to be around 50 - 55% carbs. Carbs are an excellent source of energy. Diets that forbid carbs are really harming you and just making you crave those that much more. Your dieting shouldn't cause you to be insufficient in anything.
