Motivation and planning: the keys to muscle gain success

By Jon Cardozo

When you first decide to begin a weight gaining program, the first things that you think about are probably the workout routines, the supplements, and your nutrition plan. However, before you get too involved in the details of gaining weight and building lean muscle mass, you should take some time to identify your motivation and set some goals for yourself. Obviously, you're going to need a lot of knowledge to succeed in this new endeavor, and that knowledge will focus around what to eat, what supplements to take, and what kind of workout program you should follow.

Before you begin to obtain this new knowledge, understanding the motivation behind your goals could actually be quite helpful. Lack of knowledge can make you fail, but a lack of planning and not really knowing why you're doing something can ultimately lead to failure as well.

So before you purchase a gym membership or head to the grocery store to replace the contents of your pantry, ask yourself a few questions about what you're trying to achieve. First of all, do you know what exactly you are trying to achieve?

Perhaps you should ask your doctor how much weight you can gain and how quickly you can do so without harming your health. Based on this advice, you can then set a timetable for achieving your goal. If you break your goal into small chunks it will seem less daunting and more easily attainable.

Like we said before, knowing why you want something is pretty important. Knowing your motivation should not be underestimated if you want to succeed in building muscle.

When things get tough on your journey, as they inevitably will, you will probably begin to doubt your goals. Even if you set your goal properly, you'll wonder if you really are capable of achieving your objectives or if you even want to achieve them.

When you begin to wonder if you can really achieve your goal or why you even set the goal in the first place, your original motivation will be critical. Why exactly did you set the goal anyway? Whether it's feeling more energetic or being more fit for your sport, you need to identify the specific reasons for targeting this goal. It really helps if this is coming from you and not just from peer pressure.

Obstacles are inevitable when you set a big goal, and building more muscular physique is probably going to be a pretty big goal for you. Starting off on the right path by knowing exactly what you want and why will go a long way toward helping you achieve success. - 17274
