To begin with, Green Tea was found by the Chinese over 4,000 long years ago. It is made from the steamed dried leaves of the shrub plant Camellia Sinensis. Drying the leaves this way allows the delicate antioxidants to remain in their natural and best state. And while talking of antioxidants, the most beneficial and prominent of these is EGCG or in scientific terms Epigallocatechin Gallate. Sugars and fats we take in in our diets are synthesized by the body into a substance called Triglyceride. Triglyceride is used as energy by the body. If too many sugary and fat containing foods are ingested, there develops an surplus of triglyceride. This surplus can cause obesity. This is not to suggest that EGCG can eradicate problems with weight on its own. Moreover it can help massively with efforts in weight loss diets. It can work in this way as in actual fact EGCG stimulates the enzyme that dissolve triglyceride.

Free Radicals are those evil electrons that can cause havoc in the body. They are electrons that are in an unpaired state. Because of this state, they are basically damaged goods. On this note, Green Tea is not the only food that contains EGCG. It can be found in many other foods in high doses also. Some of those foods are carrots, broccoli, strawberries, spinach, grapes and red wine. In saying this, Green Tea does hold the highest proportion of EGCG antioxidants than all previously mention foods. Green Tea also contains Vitamin B2, Riboflavin, which is involved in the formation of red blood cells, production of antibodies and cell respiration and growth.
