A Powerful, Natural Detox Plan

By Michael Carrick

You don't need to starve yourself and deprive yourself of food and drink to undertake a successful, healthy detox diet. If you don't give your body the energy that it needs, you'll end up creating more health problems than you solve. Rather than reducing the amount you consume, you instead need to opt for alternatives that are better for you.

Your largest meals should be at breakfast and lunch. You should be consuming 4 to 6 small portioned meals at the same time each day, and be taking in less food as the day progresses. Also, grill, steam or bake your food instead of frying it.

You should be taking in a minimum of 5 portions of fruits and vegetables per day, whether they are canned, frozen, dried or fresh, as they are the most important part of a healthy detox.

Fruits that will benefit you that you can choose from include strawberries, tangerines, raspberries, pineapples, peaches, pomegranates, pears, melons, oranges, passion fruit, mangoes, kiwifruit, mandarins, limes, lemons dates, gooseberries, grapes, figs, chestnuts, currants, clementines, blackcurrants, cherries, blueberries, bananas, avocados, apples, blackberries, and apricots.

As for vegetables, choose from spring onions, asparagus, beetroot, brussels sprouts, gherkins, cabbage, potato, carrots, cauliflower, red pepper, celery, cress, radish, cucumber, green pepper, aubergine, haricot beans, lettuce, swede, marrow, onion, courgette, peas, green beans, parsnip, pumpkin, rhubarb, spinach, sweet corn, broad beans, runner beans, turnips, watercress or yellow pepper.

As well as fruits and vegetables, increase your consumption of fibre, beans, seeds, and nuts. The following are ideal, particularly as healthy snacks: rice cakes, buckwheat, brown rice, quinoa, mung beans, pinto beans, chickpeas, lentils, kidney beans, millet, cashews, almonds, baked beans, cereal, walnuts, sesame seeds, flaxseed, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.

You want to avoid taking in too much sugar, wheat, processed or red meats, breads or pastries, and any types of dairy product. Though these foods aren't considered entirely unhealthy, they can slow down the progress of your detox as they are more difficult for your body to process. - 17274
