Body Building Bodybuilding

By Julian Bodley

Research has shown that women who participate in bodybuilding fitness can help stop the onset of osteoporosis. So what's stopping you from heading to the gym and doing a few reps?

Myth # 1: I'll end up looking like a guy

Men and women have the same hormones, including testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and DHEA. Men have more testosterone, the primary hormone that helps men develop the large muscles that they have. If there are women who look like men, it's because they're taking a hormone supplement. If done correctly, without extra hormones or illegal steroids, bodybuilding will help you look defined, not manly.

Myth # 2: Eating while bodybuilding will make me fat

The more you work out, the more energy you use, the more food you must eat to maintain your strength. Sure, you should eat as often as 6 or 7 times a day. But keep those meals small and smart. Chicken or fish, veggies and fruits with whole grains and a few protein shakes. Unlike cake, donuts and chips, which are full of empty calories, small, smart meals will help make you lean.

Myth #3: I can't drink all that water, I'll get bloated

Drinking water to hydrate your muscles is imperative. And the opposite is true; not drinking enough water will make you retain water. Women are vulnerable to this because of monthly hormone fluctuations. Drink before you feel thirsty and keep your intake at 16 to 20 ounces a day.

Myth #4: People will think I look stupid

Do you think you have to be blonde and buff to enter a gym? Yes, it's part of human nature to judge people, but they'll do so in the store, the beauty salon and the workplace. People working out at the gym are too busy concentrating on their own fitness goals to notice you.

Myth # 5: Working out turns fat into muscle

When you get into bodybuilding, all that extra fat will just melt away. Fat is just stored energy and can not be converted into muscle. It will give you the power to keep going, which will then turn into lean, beautiful muscle. - 17274
