Why Should We Consider Supplementation

By Chris Bobbs

A lot of us take supplements, but what is the underlying reason why we supplement? What do we get from supplement taking? And the question to ask ourselves is why should we consider consuming vitamins and minerals and other supplements? The truth is that the vast majority of the public consume supplements to give our bodies a much needed immune system boost and to give ourselves a sense of general good well being.

The underlying truth is that the public tends to take supplements because our diets tend to be poor and our diets tend to be consisted of a lot of sugar type foods and processed foods which of course lose a lot of their natural benefit such as vitamins and minerals etc.

Many individuals in the health profession have for a long time promoted the benefits of natural consumption such as fruits and vegs, but despite this continuous promotion of eating natural, individuals diets still do not reflect what their fruit and vegetable consumption should be.

Despite all the glum news, this cloud has a silver lining in respect that a lot of people choose to eat meat and within meat lies lots of vitamins and minerals. The most important of which is Iron. Meat has a staggering amount of iron content which is essential for general well being. This basically means that if you eat an adequate amount of meat, then you should have sufficient amounts of iron floating around your body.

The bad news is present for vegetarians as unfortunately without meat the body is not getting as many nutrients as it needs.

The human race over the past few years has tilted towards a generation which is getting increasingly lazy. And being lazy and having a poor diet tend to tie in together. Just stop for a moment and consider individuals who may be lazy because they put in considerable amount of hours and have no time for exercise... A profession that could spring to mind could be a computer programmer, these people tend to be very busy and therefore tend to eat processed food which when combined with a lack of exercise can result in weight gain and health problems.

So in a world with such temptations and food with a lack of nutrients etc, what should you do? The answer is quite simple and involves being in tune with your body. Have you ever had a sugar craving before or a meat craving before? Your body is craving those foods for certain calorie types and certain vitamins. So listen carefully to your body and don't become confused with cravings and what you 'think' you should have

So you may have decided that you wish to start supplementing, and whilst you may have made this decision, you may be asking yourself the question of when should you supplement? The answer is entirely up to you. A lot of people tend to supplement after they start feeling ill or lethargic and some people supplement to ensure they reduce the possibilities of feel ill etc. The choice is yours. - 17274
