What are Organic Chickens and What Are the Benefits of Eating Them?

By Andrea Kristi

Chicken is considered to be one of the healthiest meats in the market. However, if you really want to buy the best for your family, buy organic chicken.

Buying conventionally raised chicken is not always the best idea, because farmers often use arsenic in the chicken feed. Arsenic is a poison, which exposure has been linked to certain types of cancer, heart disease, liver disease and many other health problems.

Another study has shown that if pregnant women expose themselves to arsenic, their children may have higher chances of getting cancer later in life.

Other studies and research showed that young chickens have the highest levels of arsenic among other meats and poultry. According to the research it may be up to four times higher than in other meats.

Exposure to large quantities of arsenic causes immediate death, so arsenic is called a deadly poison for a reason.

Fortunately, there is an alternative for people who love chicken. If you dont want to risk your health and make sure you are not getting exposed to any levels of arsenic, buy organic chickens. They are fed with natural feed which is not chemically altered. Organic chickens are raised on 100% vegetarian and healthy diets; no medications, vaccines or growth hormones are given to them. They are also kept on chemical-free soils.

Organic chickens which are free-range are much healthier than conventionally raised ones, because they get daily exposure to sunshine and fresh air. They have plenty of room to move around and to run, which makes their muscles well exercised and not wasted. They have high amounts of beneficial fats, which help lower cholesterol levels. They are also rich in Vitamin A and Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

If you cant afford to buy organic chicken on a regular basis, check local farmers markets. They often offer organic or free-range chicken for cheaper than supermarkets or specialized organic food stores.

If you are not convinced that buying organic chicken is better for your health, give it a try anyway. You will taste the difference and may never want to go back to conventionally raised chicken again. - 17274
