Acai What is It?

Many Brazilians have been using Acai berry as a staple in their diets. This difficult to pronounce fruit is from the palm tree family. You might be asking, What is Acai? and the answer is in the rest of this article.

This particular family of Palm covers 7 species which have a native territory that spreads through Central and South America. The Palm tends to grow in flood land regions. While the Acai is probably most famous for the berries which are considered a "super food" containing a large amount of nutrients and antioxidants.

Acai has found its way into many diets as a great health food. It is sold as a juice, powder, supplement, or even as pulp. The entire palm is used including the leaves which are used for roofing thatch, brooms, baskets, mats, and head coverings.

The Acai plant is used for medicinal purposes as an astringent for gastrointestinal issues. The wood has a very high resistance to bugs and therefore is used for a lot of construction. Seeds are used for livestock food, jewelry, and plant soil.

What is Acai? Acai is one of the earth's natural wonders and gifts. It supplies everything from an energizing nutritional fruit and heart for food, and materials designed to provide coverings and shelter and because of its viability it is an important trade commodity for many people. It goes quickly and produces in abundance.

It takes a couple months to grow the seeds to seedlings. There are around a thousand berries per palm tree per crop and you can produce two crops a year on mature plants. Forty percent of the diet in this native region make up a dietary staple of Acai in some various form. - 17274
