Weight Loss Can Be Easy

By Marcus Werthen

Calories in, calories out. While weight loss plans might suggest that the formula is something much more complicated, the reality is that how much you eat is vastly more important than what you eat, and in what combinations. Eat fewer calories than you burn (through regular, daily activities as well as exercise) and you will lose weight. This truly isnt rocket science.

While many of us jumped on the low carb bandwagon in recent years, or even visited centers and weight loss programs to help us lose weight, what matters is how many calories we eat. These studies have shown that the reason people lose weight on a low carb diet isnt because they eat fewer carbs. Its because a low carb diet naturally decreases the amount of calories eaten as well.

New studies have shown that calories are all that are really need to be counted in order to lose weight. You can still follow a plan and you can still visit the weight loss center, but whats really important is that the calories are reduced. Thats what will lead to weight loss. Once they understand the importance of calories, many dieters still visit the weight loss center, or even follow the low carb plan, but they focus as much on counting calories as anything else.

But many of us can create our own diets, based on the nutritional guidance we get from books or magazines. We might consult a dietitian, and create our own diet based on our eating preferences and needs. But there are some important considerations to make.

When you reduce your calories, it can be easy to ignore or forget certain nutrients. Because you have fewer calories in which to get your vital nutrients, you have to make every bite count. That is, each meal should contain a good mix of calcium, protein, fiber and other nutrients. Theres less room for sweets, fats and other empty calories because you want to make sure that each calorie counts for something beyond just calories.

Wherever you get your meal plans and ideas for low calorie menus, its important that you count calories formally. That is, figure out which method works best for you and count each calorie you ingest. Everything that goes into your mouth should be recorded. You might use an electronic device, or you might simply carry a notebook around with you. You might purchase a journal thats designed for counting calories. Whatever you choose, be religious about it, and record everything. Experts say this is the clearest and surest path to weight loss.

If you are dedicated to the job of losing weight and you are sure of your own ability to put up a good effort, all thats left is finding the plan. Its bit of a comfort to know that the plan isnt where its at. Simply cut calories and record those calories (thats the real trick) and the weight loss will happen. - 17274
