How To Identify A Sugar Addiction

By Katherine Crawford M.S.

If you eat lots of sugar and you want to get rid of arm fat, you're in for a very tough ride. Unfortunately, a high sugar intake will make your insulin levels sky rocket. And high insulin will block your body from burning arm fat.

But how can you tell if you're addicted? Maybe you aren't completely sure if you qualify as having an addiction. A little self-analysis is required here. Go through the following questions and be as honest as possible:

1. Have you been unable to reduce your intake no matter how hard you try? If you find sugar creeping its way back into your life every single time you want to quit, than an addiction is near. You see, high sugar intakes can alter our brains the same way drugs do.

2. Does your body go into shock if you don't have sugar? Searing headaches, moody episodes and intense cravings are all indications of withdrawal. Said symptoms make it even harder to stop eating sugar.

3. Have you developed the ability to generate complex reasons as to why you are NOT addicted? If you consistently come up with detailed arguments in defense of not being addicted, then you may be addicted. This is denial at its max.

4. Are you able to ignore the serious consequences of high sugar consumption despite a health issue? If you have developed the ability to ignore the health issue despite your sugar intake, then you could be in denial-a dangerous place to be.

5. Do you use sugar to compensate for other negative aspects of life? Are you in a bad or abusive relationship? Are you bothered by negative emotions? Do you use sugar to offset the above? If so, you may be addicted.

And rest assured that sugar addiction is real, very real. Rodents given high intakes of sugar show similar brain alterations as compared to drug use. Also, doctors routinely use sugar as a powerful pain killer when performing surgery on infants.

Now you have to be honest with yourself. Are you addicted to sugar? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you very well may be addicted. Seeking out competent psychological, nutritional and medical help is a good approach for helping you overcome the battle. And remember, there is always hope! - 17274
