A Low Carb Cholesterol Diet Can Help Your Cholesterol Reading

By Adrian Fletcher

Although necessary for our bodies to function properly, cholesterol often worries people. They are constantly worrying about reducing the amount that they consume as it can have detrimental affects on the body if there is too much of it. Our bodies produce both "good" (HDL) and "bad"(LDL) cholesterol. For proper health, the goal is to increase levels of "good" cholesterol and reduce our levels of "bad" cholesterol. Both of these goals can be accomplished by utilizing a low carb cholesterol diet.

With a low carb cholesterol diet, the types of foods that will increase body fat are eliminated or reduced. This is the main reason why a low carb cholesterol diet will work in most cases. Insulin and sugar levels, along with body fat, are increased by foods that are high in carbohydrates, like starchy foods and foods high in sugar. The danger with consuming too much of these types of food is that cholesterol levels are raised, which can lead to heart problems and other health issues.

Cholesterol is found in many foods, particularly those that contain trans fats and/or saturated fats. Most people who are overweight or obese have high cholesterol levels in their body. One can decrease body fat and bad cholesterol by choosing a low carb cholesterol diet that will provide necessary nutrients for the body without adding additional sugars and starches.

Eating low carb foods decreases the production of insulin by the body. This in turn requires the body to use stored excess sugars and fats for converting into energy. Since the body is burning more sugar and fat under a low carb cholesterol diet than you are consuming, you can lose the extra weight more quickly without putting your health in danger. The obvious benefit of this is that it will lower your LDL cholesterol but it can also reduce the chances of deveolping diabetes and other cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

Carbs and sugar supplements are the key things to look out for in a low carb cholesterol diet. Aside from watching out for the carb and sugar content, the diet is pretty open. When you have a good handle on what foods contain the most carbs and cholesterol, you can make better choices. Using this knowledge, you will be able to plan a good diet that doesn't sacrifice flavor and nutrition. Simple carbs are probably the worst you can take in. these are simple sugars in things like soft drinks and candy. Complex carbs are the better option, as you need some form of carbs in your diet.

Nowadays, there are a wide variety of foods that cater to a low carb cholesterol diet. You can even purchase foods that are normally high in starch, like pastas, that have been made with less carbs so those who want to lower their cholesterol or are trying to maintain their health and weight can still enjoy their favorite foods.

If you want to lose weight, feel healthier, have more energy and get faster results on your cholesterol levels, exercise is an important key factor. Double check with your doctor before you begin any new eating plan, including a low carb cholesterol diet, to be absolutely certain this is the right choice for you. If you are pregnant or nursing, or if you already have a medical condition that might limit you, it is extremely important for you to get the go-ahead from your doctor. - 17274
