What's the Best Yeast Free Bread Options?

By Matt Bournston

If you have recently decided to give up eating yeast, or you are thinking about giving it up, you are probably wondering about the bread options available. Most bread contains yeast, so it's good to know what your yeast-free bread options are, so that you know where to buy it or how to make it yourself.

Most people with an intolerance to yeast are actually intolerant specifically to manufactured yeast, and can usually tolerate natural yeast. In this kind of situation, sourdough bread is a good option. The key to making a good sourdough bread is to have a good starter that doesn't contain yeast.

What is a "starter"?

Well, a starter (also known as a "levain") is essentially an ancestral form of pre-ferment used to make sourdough bread. Sourdough is a method of trapping natural yeast. Once you have a starter, it is possible to make most kinds of yeast bread. However, the bread will taste different to normal bread. The the lactic acid produced by the lactobacilli will cause it to have a kind of sour flavor, hence the name.

However, there is another type of bread you can make, and that is Soda Bread. Check out this great soda bread recipe

What You Will Need:

* Six cups of flour

* One tablespoon of baking soda

* One teaspoon of salt

* 2 eggs

* 3 cups yoghurt

Directions:

1. Mix the flour, baking soda and the salt.

2. Add the eggs and yoghurt and mix thoroughly.

3. Need thoroughly for approximately five minutes.

4. Place into 2 bread tins and bake for approximately thirty minutes.

By following a recipe like this and making your own bread, not only will you be able to control what ingredients are used, but you will also be able to enjoy it fresh, straight from the oven, nice and warm, the way bread should be. - 17274
